A native of Rome’s Trastevere district, Fulci studied at the Naval College in Venice, finished secondary education at the Giulio Cesare State Classical School, briefly entered medical school and then turned to film, training at Rome’s Centro Sperimentale before working as an art critic, documentary maker and assistant to director Steno on Totò comedies.
