Raised in Houston, Texas, she finished high school in 1964, briefly studied psychology and drama at Trinity University before moving to New York to train at the Balanchine School of American Ballet. Early work included television commercials, print ads and small film parts, leading to guest spots on series such as The Partridge Family and McCloud, and a stint as a Breck Shampoo model.
