Born to a mixed-heritage family in Los Angeles and raised in Hawaii, she studied liberal arts at Santa Monica City College before training in jazz, ballet, Afro-Samba, West African and hip-hop at the Roland Dupree Dance Academy and the Alvin Ailey Summer Program, later collaborating with choreographers Debbie Allen, Michael Peters and Marguerite Derrics.
