Hailing from Pauri Garhwal in what is now Uttarakhand, he moved to Delhi at five, completed schooling at Government Boys Senior Secondary School Begumpur and began his theatrical training in 1994 under director Arvind Gaur, performing in classics such as Tughlaq, The Good Person of Szechwan and The Caucasian Chalk Circle before stints with Asmita and Act One companies.
