Born in Busan and educated in theater and film at Kyungsung University, he spent nine years with the Dongnyeok theater troupe before making his screen debut in 2004. Early on he earned a reputation as a scene-stealer in supporting roles such as in Our Brother, Running Wild and A Dirty Carnival, and appeared in television dramas including My Too Perfect Sons and Deep Rooted Tree.
