Yeşim Ustaoglu returns to San Sebastián with What Remains
The film What Remains, which opens on September 22, follows Elif, a poet seeking creative freedom.
Turkish director Yeşim Ustaoglu returns to the Basque festival after her Golden Shell in 2008 for Pandora's Box. The San Sebastián competition welcomes her new feature What Remains, for which a brand-new excerpt has just been revealed.
The story follows Elif, a poet who breaks away from a stifling existence to "reconnect with her inner voice, her conscience and let her creativity flow". By questioning family conventions, identity and the meaning of life, her path of discovery pushes each family member to rethink their own future. The Turkish cast includes Öykü Karayel in the lead role, with Metin Akdülger (Mehmet), Ali Kayra Kul (Selim) and Ilyas Salman (Mustafa).
