Issu de Ypsilanti, Michigan, il a grandi dans les banlieues de Detroit, a terminé le lycée à Walled Lake Central en 1993, puis a suivi des cours d’improvisation au Groundlings tout en obtenant à l’UCLA un diplôme magna cum laude en anthropologie.
