Issu de Woodhaven, Queens, il a grandi d'abord à New York puis, à dix ans, a déménagé en Géorgie où il a obtenu son diplôme du lycée South Forsyth avant de se former à l'University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Il débute à Broadway en 2007 avec The Ritz et reçoit une nomination aux Tony Awards pour son rôle de Spike dans Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike en 2012.
